Corner Cottage, 1A Park Road, Aldeburgh (sleeps 4)
Part of the service we offer to our clients at Best of Suffolk is advice and practical help on preparing their holiday cottage to make it as successful as possible. Once or twice a year we put our own advice into practice by preparing a holiday cottage of our own. The latest example of this is Corner Cottage in Aldeburgh which was purchased in October 2011 from its elderly owner who had lived there since the early 1950s - and not much had changed since then.
After 4 months of hard work by skilled craftsmen, artists and engineers the renovation of Corner Cottage was finally completed today! The Victorian house which stands on the corner of Aldeburgh's High Street and Park Road has been transformed into a stunning and luxurious Best of Suffolk holiday cottage sleeping 4 guests.
At Best of Suffolk we believe that this kind of project not only results in great accommodation for our guests but also assists the local community. We take a house which was sparsely occupied by its previous owner as a second home and create a busy holiday cottage which will have guests staying in it most days of the year - hopefully taking advantage of the wonderful services on offer in Aldeburgh including its restaurants, independent shops and other sporting and cultural activities.
Best of Suffolk strives to make a positive contribution to the communities which our holiday cottages sit proudly in. All our renovation has a strong conservation ethos. In this particular project we replaced UPVC windows and doors with box sash windows and a panelled door to match the originals - we challenge our guests to spot the difference!!

Why choose a Norfolk holiday?
Welcome to Norfolk!
We are really lucky to have some amazing cottages in Norfolk for you to stay in and to benefit from everything this beautiful county has to offer.
Whether you are looking for a coastal retreat, exploring the countryside or just a bit of retail therapy you will find everything in easy reach.
Norfolk on the Coast
From our Flagstaff properties you are able to easily explore the diversity of the entire North Norfolk coast with ease. On your doorstep is the unspoilt beach at Burnham Overy Staithe. At low tide, the creek is the perfect place for swimming with all the family and crabbing at high tide on the quay. Scolt head island is accessible by foot at low tide or why not take the island ferry at High tide and watch the sailing boats...you might even spot a seal! The Boathouse on the quay sells all of your beach supplies as well as drinks and sandwiches. The Hero bar and restaurant serves fresh local food, perfect after a long day on the beach! A couple of miles further up the coast and you meet the Holkham Estate with its famous beach as seen on ITV's Kingdom and Shakespeare in Love.
The Holkham Estate has more than just a beach to offer, in fact it could keep you entertained for days. There are spectacular grounds inhabited by deer, the Victoria pub serving scrummy local food, an Adnams shop, homemade ice cream parlour and fishing.
Also don't miss...Wells-next-the-Sea for a traditional seaside experience complete with amusement arcades, fish and chips and a miniature train from the town to the beach. Wells also boasts some fantastic independent shops; why not grab a bag of sweets from Goldings or some charcuterie from the Norfolk Deli Company. Wells is home to some great places to eat and drink, The Crab House near the quay is a great place to eat fresh fish caught from their own boat and for one of the best pints with the best views climb up onboard Albatross, Wells' famous Dutch Barge.
Burnham Market aka 'Chelsea on Sea' is a hot spot for the finer things on the coast and some serious celebrity spotting. Think Jack Wills, Grooms Artisan Bakery and the ultimate posh pub - The Hoste!
Don't forget to say hello to the seals either, with tours running daily in high season from the beautiful Blakeney and Morston.
Norfolk in the Countryside
Whether you choose Romulus and Remus or Crossways Barn you are never far away from a brilliant day out!
Thetford Forest is the perfect place for an adventure, go cycling, drive a Segway, and if you are really brave try the high wire experience Go Ape! Time your holiday right and you could also go and watch The Red Rose Chain 'Theatre in the Forest'.
If you fancy something a bit more relaxing then visit the Pensthorpe Nature Reserve near Fakenham for lovely country walks, gardens and wildlife.
For days out with the children (or big kids...) you have to pay a visit to the Dinosaur Adventure Park, Bewilderwood, Banham Zoo or Pleasurewood Hills theme park.
An hour East and you will find the Norfolk Broads, with watersports and boating aplenty.
Visit Norwich, 'the most complete medieval city in Britain' for some satisfying retail therapy. There is Chapelfields and Castle Mall for all the top High Street brands or 'tomblands' for the more boutique shopper. Stay into the evening to enjoy the foodie scene and great nightlife, it was once said that there was a pub for every day of the year in Norwich.
If this has whet your appetite, the first step is to choose your cottage.......

Best of Suffolk's Sport Relief Mile!
Best of Suffolk team run 3 miles and raise over £1000!
There are some sore legs and funny walks in the Best of Suffolk office this Monday. The reason behind this.....the Sport Relief 3 mile run which took place in Aldeburgh and Thorpeness on Sunday 25 March 2012.
The Best of Suffolk's fabulous four, Naomi, Claire, Simon and Sam arrived to a cold and misty morning in Thorpeness...not quite the conditions they had hoped for but nonetheless they remained in high spirits and refused to be deterred! Around 100 people took part in the race which started and finished at the Thorpeness Country Club and involved a run along the shingle beach, across the marshes and footpath, down the old railway track and back through the golf course....much to the amusement of the golfers!
Despite a few unplanned detours, resulting in some team members running over 4 miles, the team finished in good time and between them raised £547.00. Best of Suffolk pledged to match the money raised by the individual team members meaning the final total raised for Sport Relief is £1094!
Thank you to everyone who donated and a big WELL DONE to team Best of Suffolk!

Best of Suffolk Charity Banger Rally!
Best of Suffolk Raising Money for Charity
This summer Alex and friend Simon will be driving a banger from Aldeburgh back to Aldeburgh via Athens and north Africa in support of charity. The rules are the car has to have cost less than £500 and only minor repairs are allowed before the off!
The good news is we now have our banger! We did all the things you should not do when buying a car, we bought the first one we looked at, in the rain....and it was getting dark! Nonetheless when we went to pick it up it did start and so far so good, we have given it a clean and now all that remains to do is hope for the best!
We will be announcing our chosen charities soon and will be engaging in a range of activities to raise money as the rally approaches...watch this space as the story unfolds!
